Position: Driver Reports To: Division Supervisor Wage: $75,800-$107,000 annually Job Summary Truck Drivers will operate a tractor and trailer configuration (semi or B train) and transport and deliver bulk materials such as wood chips or mineral concentrate and/or flat deck loads. May be required to load and unload truck. Truck drivers work in the cab of the truck while driving, and outside when needed to load or unload. They can encounter all kinds of road, weather and traffic conditions. Truck drivers generally work without direct supervision, and will be paid on an hourly, per trip, or mileage basis. The number of hours a driver may drive in a given period is subject to regulation. Extended hours and weekend work is common. Many truck drivers at Arrow are home every day, certain divisions hauls are 300 kms from origin to destination, work is year-round and steady. Pay rates are competitive with industry standard and in many divisions are based off Collective Agreements. Major Responsibilities * Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations. * Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance. * Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions. * Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics * Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. * Check mobile equipment (i.e. frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order. * Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor. * Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites. * Record, Maintain and Check all relevant paperwork (i.e. bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate. * Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers. * Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations * Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers. * Assist in loading and unloading of trucks. * Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure. * Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements. Tarping loads may be a requirement. * Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up. * Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems. * Ensure that all customers, co-workers and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect. * Train others when requiredRequirements * Proven ability to drive in snow and to chain tires when necessary.
