Recreation Assistant Salary: $27.86 per hour Who You Are You are energetic, upbeat, and personable; a team player that works fluidly with residents, families, and colleagues every step of the way. You can work independently as well as take direction, be flexible, and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills. Your communication skills are solid; able to effectively share and receive information both verbally and in writing. You are passionate about resident care and will go that extra mile to put a smile on our residents faces. What You Will Do * Is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of therapeutic social and recreational programs (as identified by the Recreation Therapist) for Residents * With other team members, provides input and feedback (from all partners including Residents and significant others) in the development, implementation and evaluation of the therapeutic and recreational activities. * Participates in the decorating of the Home’s environment * In collaboration with the Recreation Therapist develops an individual Leisure Plan for each Resident. * Assists in keeping common areas organized and clean. * Maintains a safe living and working environment for Residents, employees, volunteers and visitors. * Maintains professional relationships and communication with Residents, team members, family member/significant others, contracted service providers, etc. * Ensures all appropriate steps are taken to maintain and encourage optimum Resident participation in the scheduled programs. * Communicates with Residents, family member/significant others, employees, etc. via one-on-one or group meetings, written documentation, etc. * Generates and expresses enthusiasm and commitment for the Home’s social and recreational programs * As necessary, shares information regarding observed changes in cognitive/functional abilities in a timely manner to the Recreation therapist, LPN, RN, Director of Care * Maintains clear, concise, accurate and timely documentation of Resident observations and program participation, etc. * Ensures that resident rights are maintained and respected which includes confidentiality. * Is responsible for other duties as assigned by Recreation therapist and/or Recreation Coordinator. Your Qualifications – The Must Have’s * Graduation from a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program * Valid unrestricted Class 4 drivers license * Patience, kindness, compassion, and the ability to work collectively with your colleagues * Current First Aid with CPR certificate * Food Safe Certificate * WHMIS Certificate * Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position * Experience working with seniors in a Long term care home * Able to pass a Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector What we offer * Working with an amazing group of residents and co-workers in a safe, friendly environment * Part time commitment: working on-call shifts and vacation coverage * On-site parking and nearby transitKaigo has a dedicated team of employees who have been enriching the lives of our seniors for 25 years.
