We must continually identify, assess, report and control possible risks to the health and safety of ourselves, our co-workers, volunteers, contractors, our clients/residents and the public within the communities, which we operate. Reporting to the Hospitality Manager or Site Manager, Cook ls prepare, cook, and bake food for residents, staff and visitors in a safe manner according to menus and applicable processes, including diet and therapeutic items while adhering to standardized recipes, production sheets and special lists. Cook 1s ensure that the kitchen and all equipment within the kitchen is clean, sanitized and working properly. Qualifications Educational and other Qualifications * BC EMPLOYEES: Food Safe 1 (post July 29, 2013) or equivalent * ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Food Safety Certificate or equivalentKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Comfortable using a computer including email and internet * Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner * Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret andunderstand it fully * Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally * Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations * Excellent active listening skills * Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needsWork Experience * Two to three years Institutional Cooking experience * Experience working with the elderlyDuties * Opens main kitchen in the morning and checks communication book for any updates * Checks daily staff schedule for daily staffing requirements and notifies staff of any schedule changes * Records all refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily, reporting to maintenance if required * Ensures steamtables are heating properly and that all production equipment is operational in the main kitchen * Prepares, cooks, and bakes food for residents, staff and visitors in a safe manner according to menus and applicable processes, including diet and therapeutic items while adhering to standardized recipes, production sheets and special lists * Prepares items for catering and ensures staff have prepared and delivered daily catering (if applicable) * Prepares cafeteria items as per cafeteria menu * Reviews menu daily to ensure all items are available, if not arranges for temporary menu substitutions (if applicable) * Responsible for recording all food temperatures, for all daily meals * Responsible for pulling meat for tempering, according to menu and safe food handling processes * Assists Dietitian with any recipe requirements including ensuring vegetarian items are available * Ensures all leftovers have been properly labelled and stored and is responsible for 72-hour food samples, according to HACCP standards * Responsible for ordering food items from approved suppliers (when required) * Assists with storing groceries, ensuring fresh and frozen items are stored properly * Ensures all production equipment is cleaned, sanitized and stored properly * Reports any safety or deficiencies to immediate supervisor * Responsible for orientation of newly hired staff for food services * Demonstrates dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled * Maintains a high standard of cleanliness, keeping the work environment consistently tidy * Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures * Ensures an environment and resources which nurture spirituality * Other related duties as assignedWork within GSS Standards of Safety and Care * Ensures that resources are being used effectively and efficiently and not wasted or misappropriated * Maintains confidentiality on issues related to resident/client and employee matters and GSS information * Pursues continual learning by participating in in-services and training/education programs * Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of GSS * Maintains a safe working culture by assessing and controlling possible health and safety risks * Adheres to all GSS policies and procedures Apply to: https://hrnet.gss.org/HRNETLIVE/CustomizationSitemap.aspx?path=Navigation%2fHome Company: The Good Samaritan Society / Good Samaritan Canada Salary: $27.56 / hr Contract: PERMANENT
